Latvian government approves of doubling maternity, paternity and parental benefit ceilings in 2013

Print versionMaternity, paternity and parental benefit ceilings will be doubled in 2013 in Latvia, according to amendments to the Law on Payment of State Allowances during the Time Period from 2009 to 2014 and the Law on State Social Allowances supported by the government today. The final decision on the amendments will be made by Saeima.

The amendments stipulate that, as of January 1, 2013, the maximum amount of parental, maternity and paternity benefits will be LVL 23.02 per day and 50% of the amount exceeding LVL 23.02, writes LETA.
The said benefit ceilings will apply to eight% of parental benefit recipients, ten% of maternity benefit recipients and 17% of maternity benefit recipients, who receive above LVL 700 per month. The current restrictions to parental, maternity and paternity benefits envisage the maximum amount of LVL 11.51 per day and 50% of the amount exceeding LVL 11.51.
The current family benefit – LVL 8 per child – will remained unchanged until December 31, 2014.
