Elections to parliament and referendum on the construction of a new NPP will cost LTL 20 mln

October (2012) elections to parliament and referendum on the construction of a new nuclear power plant will cost above LTL 20 million (EUR 5.8 million).

The Central Electoral Commission (VRK) has approved the expenses of the commissions of polling stations and constituencies during the parliamentary elections in October 2012, reports LETA/ELTA.

 

 This year's expenses should reach around LTL 15.4 million (EUR 4.5 million). The greatest share of this sum (LTL 11.7 million/EUR 3.4 million) will go to over 2,000 commissions of polling stations. The members of the commission will receive pays for LTL 8.2 million (EUR 2.4 million). Commission members from 71 constituencies will receive LTL 1.9 million (EUR 0.55 million) for their work. Head of the VRK Zenonas Vaigauskas says that so far it has not been estimated how much the consultative referendum on the construction of a new nuclear power plant is going to cost. However, it has been agreed that it should not cost more than LTL 2 million (EUR 0.58 million).

 

According to him, the maximum sum of money than can be spent both for general elections and referendum is LTL 21 million (EUR 6 million).
