"Daugavas Vanagi" demanded lifting the Riga City Council's ban and pay out LVL 7,000 in damages, since the municipality banned March 16 assemblies for the fourth consecutive year. The organization also demanded public apologies in Latvia's largest newspapers, however, the court rejected these demands.
"Daugavas Vanagi" plans to hold its traditional March 16 procession from Dome Church via Riga's Old Town to the Freedom Monument from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
As reported, the Riga City Council banned all public events planned for March 16 for security considerations, but several organizers of these events turned to courts, which overruled the municipality's decision.
