Interior Minister: working conditions for Latvian police officers are unsuitable

Alla Petrova, BC, Riga, 10.02.2012.Print version
Working conditions for police officers in Latvia are unsuitable, and these officers deserve much more, Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis (ZRP) said today during a meeting organized by the State Police to report on results of 2011.

The minister emphasized that there are still police precincts in Latvia that have seen no renovation work done in over 50 years. Kozlovskis said that he will try to improve the situation, and added that it is a disgrace that some police officers are forced to renovate their offices themselves, writes LETA.

At the same time, Kozlovskis pointed out that people in Latvia feel safe and are not afraid of going outside, thus praising the work of the police force in Latvia.

The minister promised to do everything so that financing for the interior system will increase next year, because this financing is at its lowest possible point at the moment.
