Valdur Laid, director general of the Estonian Tax and Customs Board, is to leave office from September 15 and head to the private sector, informs LETA/BNS.

According to Laid, this is a thoroughly planned and considered personal decision that marks an end to one stage of work in his life.

"I am resigning for two main reasons -- first of all, an important part of my job at the Tax and Customs Board that is close to my heart is either about to be finished or clearly moving on the right course. On the other hand, I feel that I can contribute better and create value as a leader in an organization with clear business goals," he said in a press release.

Laid told BNS that he has offers on the table, but has not yet made any specific decisions. However, he wanted to announce his departure enough in advance, because this is an important position. Laid assumed the position of director general of the Tax and Customs Board in June 2017.

A public competition to find a new director general of the Tax and Customs Board will be held in the near future.
