Riga Protocol on prevention of terrorism comes into effect

The Additional Protocol to the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention of Terrorism (Riga Protocol), aimed at preventing and suppressing terrorism, has come into effect today, writes LETA, according to information available at likumi.lv.
As reported, the Riga Protocol is intended to help prevent and suppress
preparation for acts of terror, including the inhibition of the flow of
“foreign terrorist fighters” to countries such as Syria and Iraq, by
criminalizing participation in a terrorist group as well as travelling abroad
for the purpose of committing, contributing to or participating in terrorist
offences, including the reception of training for terrorism, and the organizing
or funding of travel for purposes of terrorism.
Latvia along with Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom signed the protocol in 2015.
