BC, Tallinn, 22.10.2016.Print version
Police have established that the bomb threat to the Tallinn airport on Saturday was made by a man serving a prison sentence, who made the threat using a cellphone, the regional prosecutor's office said LETA/BNS.

"It goes without saying that threats like this undermine society's feeling of security," district prosecutor Natalja Vester said through spokespeople. "Therefore it is obvious that law enforcement bodies take an extremely serious approach to threats like this. By now the suspect has been identified and procedural acts continue in the course of which we will find out also why the suspect committed this act," she added.

A man speaking in Russian made a bomb threat to the airport at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday. The caller claimed that a bomb had been planted on board the aircraft about to head from Tallinn to Paris. He also said there were explosive devices elsewhere in the airport's territory.

After the phone call, the departures of flights from Tallinn were halted, the airport's public areas were evacuated and a bomb squad started to check the premises. The squad finished its work a few minutes after 2 p.m. without finding any items posing a threat and people were allowed into the airport's public area again. Also the passengers who had to wait on board their plane after landing were allowed into the airport building,.
