Auditors send to prosecutor’s office info about unlawful spending in 2 Latvian ministries

BC, Riga, 18.05.2016.Print version
The Latvian State Audit Office has sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office information about two cases of unlawful spending of public money in two ministries – the Culture Ministry and the Health Ministry, informs LETA.

The state auditors discovered inappropriate payment of bonuses in 2015 during the financial audit at the Culture Ministry, Auditor General Elita Krumina told the press.

The Culture Ministry is the supervisory authority of the Latvian National Library where 16 employees were paid bonuses even before expiry of their trial period.

The National Sports Medicine Center under the Health Ministry had provided free medical services to its staff in violation of the effective regulations. The establishment also does not have in place an account-keeping system that would ensure effective control over the amount of services provided and the related revenue.

The State Audit Office is still going over the audit results and may report more violations in the public administration to the law enforcement agencies in the future.
