BC, Riga, 19.04.2016.Print version
The Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia on May 1 will hold a major rally calling for "respectable jobs and respectable remuneration for healthy and educated people in Latvia", the confederation's chairman Peteris Krigers said after a meeting of the confederation's board today, cites LETA.

The rally will most probably take place at the Dome Square in Riga at 12 noon.

The board of the Free Trade Union Confederation is meeting today to discuss opportunities to support healthcare unions in their demands for improvements in healthcare.

The day for the rally, May 1, is symbolic as the International Labor Day. Krigers said he hoped that at least a thousand people would participate in the rally, from Riga as well as from the regions.

Latvian Trade Union of Health and Social Care Employees decided at a meeting today that it would support and participate in the May 1 rally. All residents of Latvia, including members of political parties represented in Saeima, who support the purpose of the rally are invited to take part, said the union's chairman Valdis Keris.

On Monday, Keris said that, if no solution was found for the problems in healthcare, his union might propose dissolving Saeima.
