Around 200 participated in rally against mass immigration in Riga

Approximately 200 people participated in a rally ''against mass immigration'' at the Freedom Monument today, LETA observed.

The demonstrators also held hand to form a symbolic Baltic chain, and persons holding the Polish flag were also observed.

 

Persons were also holding poster with various slogans on the them, including - ''Europe for European, Baltics for the Balts'', ''Send Solvita, Vinkele and Straujuma to Cologne to the blacks'' and ''Saeima parties are betraying us''.

 

However, most of those in attendance were older people.

 

Those participating in the rally were also yelling chants to dismiss parliament and leave the European Union.

 

The rally was organized by the leader of the so-called ''antiglobalists'' Andris Orols.

 

A Latvian Radio reported was assaulted at today's ''anti-immigrant'' rally in downtown Riga.

 

According to Latvian Radio, the female journalist was assaulted while reporting live from the scene. She was was pushed and then punched in the stomach by a yet unidentified individual.

 

Latvian Radio told LETA that the reporter was verbally attacked as well.

 

As reported, the first asylum seekers might be relocated from Greece to Latvia in February.

 

Latvia is planning to admit 531 refugees from asylum centers in Italy and Greece within the next two years.

 

Despite the fact that Latvia has agreed to take-in refugees from third countries, it itself is seeing an influx of refugees crossing into Latvia from its eastern borders.
