"Challenges facing the humanitarian community, the situation in Syria and Ukraine as well as the European migration crisis were discussed at the meeting," spokespeople for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Kaljurand stressed Estonia's commitment to help with solving the problems by mobilizing necessary resources for UN agencies and humanitarian coordination, accepting refugees, defending European borders as well as supporting countries that accept big numbers of refugees.

O'Brien acknowledged Estonia's considerable contribution to the activities of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Kaljurand and O'Brien agreed that in spite of other humanitarian crises emerging, the situation in Ukraine must not be forgotten. "The humanitarian situation in Ukraine is still grave. For that reason Ukraine is Estonia's priority country for bilateral development cooperation and humanitarian aid. As of the start of the conflict in 2014 Estonia has allocated 1.8 million euros as humanitarian aid to help people suffering in the Ukraine conflict and relieve the situation of internal refugees," Kaljurand said.
