Liepaja Mayor notes importance of economic cooperation with U.S.

Print versionTaking into account that the European markets, including metallurgical markets, are saturated, expanding economic cooperation with the United States carries great importance, as Liepaja Mayor Uldis Sesks said during a meeting with the U.S. Ambassador to Latvia Nancy Pettit on October 2nd, cites LETA.

Traditionally, Liepaja has a well-developed metalworking, textiles, and fish processing industries, and these are the areas that are currently faced with major challenges across the world, further aggravated by the market restrictions in Russia, said Sesks. That is why Liepaja is working on the development of industrial zones and offers various support measures for small and medium-sized enterprises in order to diversify economic risks, he added.
Pettit today also met with members of the Liepaja City Council to get acquainted with the city's future plans, including in information technology and innovations.
Opportunities for deepening the economic cooperation between Latvia and the United States were also discussed.
