Grybauskaite meets with political scientist Karen Dawisha

President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite met with Professor Karen Dawisha, a well-known American political scientist and author of the book “Putin’s Kleptocracy: Who Owns Russia”, who delivered the keynote address at the Vilnius Democracy Forum currently held in the Lithuanian capital, informed BC presidential press service.

According to the President, Karen Dawisha’s recently published book on Putin’s kleptocracy allows us to better understand the governing system of Russia, its corruption networks and propaganda aimed at the West. The book is expected to be translated into Lithuanian and other languages.

 

Karen Dawisha is a professor of political science at Miami University in Oxford and director of the Center for Russian and Post-Soviet Studies. She is the author of many books, articles and other publications about the transformation of the USSR, post-communist transitions in Central and Eastern Europe. She teaches in the areas of communism, Soviet politics, end of the Cold War, post-Soviet Russian politics, changes and opposition in the post-Soviet region.

 

Karen Dawisha spent five years on writing her most recent book “Putin’s Kleptocracy: Who Owns Russia”. It is based on the Stasi – secret police of East Germany – archives, materials and information gathered by journalists, articles by Russian reporters and western nationals who worked in Moscow, as well as on other sources.
