Coalition in Latvia agrees to increase minimum wage to EUR 370

BC, Riga, 01.09.2015.Print version
The government's ruling coalition in Latvia agreed on August 31st to increase the monthly minimum wage from EUR 360 to EUR 370 as of the year 2016, reports LETA.

Unity previously offered to increase the minimum wage from EUR 360 to EUR 380, and it was believed that All for Latvia!-For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK could support this.

Meanwhile, the Union of Greens and Farmers said it would like to see the minimum wage remain at the current level.

As reported, Welfare Minister Uldis Augulis (Greens/Farmers) previously said that the Welfare Ministry's proposal is to either keep the minimum wage unchanged or increase it to EUR 367 a month. Increasing the minimum wage more than that would be economically unjustified, he explained.
