Lithuania's Tripartite Council agrees on certain arguable provisions of new Labour Code

BC, Vilnius, 01.09.2015.Print version
The trade unions and employers in Lithuania are going to establish a Guarantee Fund that will be used to pay out additional severance payments to employees, who will have accumulated a longer period of service, reports LETA/ELTA.

This was agreed at the Tripartite Council on August 31st. Representatives of trade unions, employers and the Government were negotiating on the provisions of the Labour Code that were previously postponed.

The representatives of employers agreed that assets needed for the fund would be collected through slower reduction of social insurance contributions. Scientists had proposed that social insurance contributions would be reduced by 1% each year. However, after it was suggested to establish the Guarantee Fund, contributions would be reduced at a lower rate, up to the point that they could be used to collect the fund's budget.

The Tripartite Council also agreed on provisions related to compensations for training expenses, the non-competition clause, payment for idle time, the notion of a secondment and exceptions applied to small and medium-sized business with up to 10 employees.

The next meeting of the Tripartite Council, according to the Ministry of Social Security and Labour, is scheduled for 8 September.
