"Management not only cannot organise work but is attempting to put pressure on staff so they would lie. I know this because some of the employees have revealed it. This is intolerable and inexcusable, thus I expect the minister (of social security and labour – ELTA) to make certain conclusions about the leadership of this social care home," the president told journalists.

According to the president, accidents as the one in Vilijampole social care home are predetermined by the system taken over from the Soviet Union, which Lithuania has not managed to reform in 25 years, especially as concerns care of the disabled.

Grybauskaite did not have any criticism for social care specialists and praised their work. What she did criticise however was bureaucracy and the system on the whole, as well as the management of the institution. She reminded that the facility accommodates 200 people while the international standard varies from 10 to 20 people.

She said the leadership attempted to hide the situation, while the distribution of work and functions was irrational.
