BC, Riga, 19.08.2015.Print version
Over 100 Latvian senior citizens have gathered for a demonstration today outside the Saeima building in Riga, reports LETA.

The demonstration is being organized by the Latvian Pensioners' Federation.

Saeima Speaker Inara Murniece (VL-TB/LNNK) went out to speak with the pensioners today. She expressed understanding that pensioners deserve a respectable life after they retire. Meanwhile, several of the pensioners were not able to hear what the Saeima speaker was saying, asking her to speak through a loud speaker.

The pensioners were also holding poster with various slogans on them, including: ''No pensioners. No problem!''. They were also active on speaking about their problems to the media which were on-hand.

As reported, about 70,000 senior citizens have signed a petition calling for higher indexation of pensions already this fall, as Andris Silins, head of the Latvian Pensioners' Federation, told LETA earlier this week.

The signatures will be submitted to Saeima today.

The Pensioners' Federation is also organizing a rally by the Saeima building today.

The organization previously stated that participating in the rally will be 150 members and activists of the Latvian Pensioners' Federation.
