Estonia decided to support granting a short-term loan to Greece

BC, Tallinn, 17.07.2015.Print version
The government of Estonia decided at its cabinet meeting on July 16th to support granting Greece a short-term loan of the European Financial Stability Mechanism, guaranteed by European Union's budget, when the conditions are met, LETA/Delfi reports.

The Government was given a review of the situation in Greece and decided to submit to the Riigikogu European Union Affairs Committee a bill which empowers institutions to hold negotiations to grant Greece stability support.

The European Stability Mechanism (ESM) Board of Governors discusses launching of negotiations at its hearing on Friday.

If the Riigikogu committee decides to authorize the Estonian representatives in the ESM Board of Governors to support the start of negotiations, it does not mean proprietary obligations for Estonia yet. To approve of the memorandum of understanding to be completed as the result of negotiations, Estonian representatives need full Riigikogu support.
