Development cooperation project competition concluded for neighboring countries in Latvia

On 1 June 2015, the evaluation was finalised for applications submitted under Latvian Foreign Ministry’s grant project competition. The following countries have been selected as priority beneficiaries: Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine, reported BC the Latvian MFA.

The total funding available for the competition is 70,000 euros.

 

Within the limits of the funding available, and taking into account the results of the evaluation of applications, funding was awarded to the following three projects:

 

1. A project by the Latvijas Lauku Forums association to provide support in Moldova’s “Development Region North” for the promotion of entrepreneurship and regional development with a special focus on the development of local public and private partnerships.

2. A project by the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments to facilitate the process of reforms in Moldova’s municipalities through sharing Latvia’s experience with the implementation of administrative and territorial reform  and financial decentralisation.

3. A project in Georgia by the State Border Guard College to assist Georgia’s Border Police and the Patrol Police with re-organisation of their canine division and its development in line with standards followed by EU Member States.

 

In accordance with the Latvia’s “Law on International Assistance”, the competition was open for non-governmental organisations, public institutions and the private sector.

 

Forty three project grant applications totalling 830,000 euros were submitted for the competition.
