Both minister met in Doha, Qatar, on May 24 to discuss bilateral relations between Latvia and Qatar, the Latvia Foreign Ministry informed LETA.

Rinkevics noted that Latvia wishes to expand economic cooperation with Qatar, especially in trade, through creation of a legal framework – signing an agreement on economic cooperation and cooperation in the agricultural sector.

The minister also stressed that the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union will pay special attention to improving relations between the EU and the Gulf Cooperation Council and promoting political relations with the Gulf States.

The diplomatic relations between Latvia and Qatar were established on December 19, 1996.
