Lithuanians who were injured serving in Soviet army to receive one-off payment

People who were injured during military service in the Soviet army will receive a one-off payment of EUR 835, informs LETA/ELTA.

The Seimas adopted amendments to the Law on the Social Support to People Injured during Mandatory Military Service in the Soviet Army and to the Relatives of those Killed in the Soviet Army (22 July 1945 – 31 December 1991).

 

The amendments stipulate that those people are regarded injured during the military service who were conscripted into the Soviet army for the mandatory military service or military training and were recognised incapacitated or partially incapacitated for work or have lost 20-40% of capacity for work due to injuries or diseases related to the military service or military training; and who were recognised unfit for the military service by military doctors.

 

89 members of Parliament voted for the amendments, 1 voted against. They will take effect on 1 July 2015.
