Grybauskaite meets with secretary general of OSCE

President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite met with Lamberto Zannier, Secretary General of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), to discuss regional security and the role of the OSCE in ensuring the implementation of the Minsk agreements, reports BC presidential press service.

The head of the OSCE arrived to Lithuania to participate at the conference of the OSCE and the United Nations held under the patronage of the Lithuanian president. The conference discusses the role of women in promoting international peace and security.

 

Grybauskaite said that the special OSCE monitoring mission must be enhanced, while its freedom of movement and security must be ensured. The head of state stressed that the solution of the conflict in eastern Ukraine is impossible unless international monitoring of the border between Ukraine and Russia is ensured.

 

The meeting also addressed the situation of women in the occupied territories of Ukraine.


According to the president, more and more women face violence and danger to life as the military aggression continues. Concentrated efforts of countries, the OSCE and the UN are needed seeking to ensure women's security and provide help to everyone who was forced to flee their homes because of the armed conflict.

 

The meeting with the president was attended by Michael Link, Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Radhika Coomaraswamy, the lead author of the study on the UN Security Council's resolution Women, Peace and Security, Ingibjorg Solrun Gisladottir, UN Women Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia.
