Lithuania's National Audit Office joins social mentoring initiative

BC, Vilnius, 16.04.2015.Print version
Lithuania’s National Audit Office signed a cooperation agreement with the association Mentor Lithuania, which came into effect on 13 April, 2015, reports LETA/ELTA.

The parties agreed to work together to educate children and young people so that they become honest citizens, involving them in activities that help reduce the likelihood of drug abuse, the National Audit Office reports.

The staff of the National Audit Office who are willing and able to devote their spare time to children in need will become mentors of children selected by social workers.

"The National Audit Office is the first public institution with which we have signed a long-term cooperation agreement. Each mentor commits to keep in touch with the child for a period of one year. They will be jointly involved in various activities supervised by Mentor Lithuania and intended to protect young people from drug abuse," said Secretary General of the association Mentor Lithuania Jurgita Ribinskaite-Glatzer. "I want to believe that more institutions from the public sector will follow the example of the National Audit Office."

The National Audit Office is regularly involved in various social campaigns. Every year the institution organises a charity cake day when employees donate money for children living in low-income families, raises funds before Christmas and Easter, and organises blood donation campaign.
