Latvian DefMin and Chinese army representatives discuss potential cooperation in research

Latvian Defense Minister Raimonds Vejonis (Greens/Farmers) met representatives of the People's Liberation Army of China to discuss the international and regional security situation, as well as bilateral cooperation matters, including potential cooperation between both countries' researchers.

The Defense Ministry told LETA that the meeting's participants exchanged opinions on the geopolitical situation and participation in Chinese security conferences and forums.

 

China also urged Latvia to join the UN peacekeeping missions, where China has already involved more than 2,000 of its troops.

 

Meanwhile, the defense minister offered soldiers of the People's Liberation Army of China to participate in the international naval forces exercise "Open Spirit 2015" to find and wipe out World War II explosives in the Baltic Sea.

 

The Chinese delegation also visited the National Defense Academy to meet the Latvian researchers.
