A total of 3,795 new automobiles were sold in Latvia in the third quarter this year, which is 20% more than in the third quarter of 2013, according to the Latauto.lv classified advertisements website.

This is the highest increase since the economic crisis, as the portal's sales manager Andris Malnieks told LETA.

"Six years ago, more than 5,100 new automobiles were sold in Latvia in the third quarter, whereas in the third quarter of 2009 – just 1,300 automobiles. The situation began to improve already in 2010, and now the new automobile market is quite active. By the way, increases in new automobile registrations were also observed in Estonia and Lithuania in the third quarter," said Malnieks.

At the moment, Latvia's share of the Baltic countries' new automobile market is 27%, Lithuania's – 29%, whereas Estonia's share is 44%.

The most popular new automobile in Latvia is the "Skoda Yeti", with 193 new automobiles sold, followed by 161 "Ford Focus" and 138 "Dacia Duster" new automobiles.

Sales of "Volkswagen Jetta" increased the most in the third quarter – by 185%.
