Lithuanian health care institutions to receive additional funding

BC, Vilnius, 25.11.2014.Print version
The Government has approved the proposal put forward by the Ministry of Health to allocate additional funding for health care institutions. The funding should partially compensate for the exceeded expenditure incurred when providing health care services, informs LETA/ELTA.

The Government plans to distribute additional LTL 50 million (EUR 14.5 million) for the objective.

Minister of Health Rimante Salaseviciute proposed funds to be provided from the budget reserve of the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund. Health care institutions that would sign contracts with territorial health insurance funds would be able to partially cover the exceeded health care service provision expenditure.

According to the data for the first half of 2014, public health care institutions operated at a loss amounting to LTL 29.6 million (EUR 8.6 million). Meanwhile, private health care institutions operated at a loss of LTL 9.5 million (EUR 2.7 million).
