KredEx fund starts financing start-up companies in Estonia

The Estonian government approved on Thursday law amendments that establish a 60 million euros fund of funds at the state-owned KredEx foundation that will indirectly finance start-up companies, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

The aim of the law amendments that the government approved is to diversify the business support instruments. In addition to direct grants, loans and guarantees, the new financing possibility is fund of funds, i.e. an investment in funds that invest in the equity capital of companies in Estonia.

 

According to the Ministry of Economy, 60 mln euros of EU structural fund means will be channelled to the KredEx's fund of funds. Through the fund, also pension funds will have the opportunity to invest in sub-funds, which in turn provide funding to small and medium-sized businesses.

 

Foreign Trade and Enterprise Minster Anne Sulling said that the KredEx fund of funds is divided into growth phase, early stage and business angels co-investments. Through the fund of funds, approximately 60 Estonia start-up companies get investments.
