More passengers traveled by air transport in Lithuania in 10 months

In the first ten months of 2014 year-on-year, the number of air passengers in Lithuania increased by a tenth. However, fewer goods were transported by air. Based on the data of Statistics Lithuania, in January-October 2014, the number of passengers at airports stood at 3.3 million, by 8.9% more year-on-year, informs LETA/ELTA.

Most passengers, 613,400 (18.8%) travelled to or arrived from the United Kingdom, followed by Germany – 322,900 (9.9%), Norway – 244,600 (7.5%), Italy – 231,000 (7.1%), Latvia – 176,200 (5.4%) and Denmark – 174,700 (5.36%).

 

In January-October 2014 year-on-year, by 22.6% more passengers travelled to or arrived from Italy, 4.8% to Norway, 0.9% to Germany, 0.4% to Denmark. However, the number of those travelling to and from the United Kingdom and Latvia decreased by 3.9 and 5.7% respectively.

 

Most passengers, 88.9% or 2.9 million, travelled on regular flights. Their number compared with January-October 2013 increased by 7.2%.

 

In January-October 2014, airports handled 10,800 tonnes of goods and mail, by 13.6% less than in the first ten months of 2013.

 

In the first ten months of 2014, Lithuanian and foreign airline aircraft took-off and landed 40,200 times, by 11.1% more than in the first ten months of 2013.

 

Lithuanian airlines carried 467,000 passengers in January-October 2014, by 13.3% more year-on-year. Passenger-kilometres by air stood at 910 million, a 9.5% increase.

 

Lithuanian airlines carried 572 tonnes of goods and post, i.e. by 31.4% less. Cargo turnover stood at 290,000 tonne-kilometres, i.e. by 52.1% less than in the first ten months of 2013.

 

In January-October 2014 year-on-year, the number of passengers in Lithuanian airports grew by 4.4%. Lithuanian airlines carried by 38.9% more passengers.
