"I am happy to have this occasion to visit one of the best and most famous medical centres. Lithuania is on the other side of the globe, but we very much admire and would like to take over your experience as regards the synthesis of clinical and academic excellence", said the PM, adding that the new agreement regarding the opening of a new clinic in Vilnius will make it possible.

The interlocutors agreed that modern medical technologies and management experience in health care as well as efficient medical services would be among the most relevant areas for cooperation.

"We have just become witnesses to the new and ambitious research and business initiative. In collaboration with Lithuanian partners, the UPMC decided to open up a new clinic in Vilnius. This private initiative is very welcome. It is symbolic that the agreement was signed in October, which has been breast cancer awareness month, marked annually ever since 1985," said Butkevicius.

The UPMC has more than 62,000 staff, 21 hospital with more than 5,000 beds for patients.
