BC, Riga, 02.09.2014.Print version
The Embassy of Latvia has started work in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with Head of Mission, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Rūdolfs Brēmanis. The Latvian Embassy will temporarily be located in the premises of the Danish Embassy, informs Latvia MFA.

Launching this Embassy will facilitate the bilateral political dialogue between Latvia and the UAE and take it to a new level. The Embassy also offers new opportunities for Latvian businessmen to get support in the UAE markets, as well as receiving basic consular assistance.

Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Rūdolfs Bremanis has already met with the local Latvian community of Dubai. The meeting brought together more than 50 people from Latvia who are currently living in the UAE. Latvian nationals in the UAE can now vote in the parliamentary election on 4 October. The polling station will be located in Dubai, and voting by mail will also be possible so long as voters apply before 12 September.

The opening of a Latvian Embassy in one of the world’s richest countries and most popular tourist destinations is an important step. This will expand economic, political and cultural cooperation with the region as a whole. Latvia’s interests in the Gulf States lie in intensifying the political dialogue, entering new markets for goods and services, as well as attracting investment. Latvia’s cooperation with the Gulf States also takes place as part of cooperation between the European Union (EU) and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
