During the first half of 2014, the coach operator Ecolines carried 10% more passengers than in the respective period of 2013, whereas the company's turnover increased by 2%, the company informed the business portal Nozare.lv, cites LETA.

Ecolines director Andris Podgornijs says that the number of passengers has increased on all routes, indicating that people travel more often now and many prefer traveling by bus. Clients also tend to diversify their travels.

The traveler flow between the Baltic States has grown by 5%, while to Germany – by 11%, and Czech Republic – by more than 30%, due to which Ecolines has increased the number of trips to Prague. Meanwhile, the number of passengers going to Ukraine has reduced by 35%.

Notwithstanding the tensions in eastern Ukraine, which historically has a large number of Ecolines destinations, some of which – such as Donetsk – had to be closed, the company has been able to maintain positive development trends and hopes for successful development in the future, Podgornijs indicates.

Ecolines is owned by Norma-A, which belongs to Andris Podgornijs (55.3%) and Jegors Ribzamens (44.7%).

The company offers its services in the entire Baltic region and travels to destinations in Baltics, Europe, Russia and former CIS countries. Last year, Ecolines transported more than 1.4 million passengers. The number of passengers of international trips was 600,000, domestic trips – about 800,000.
