In Estonia electronics and electrical equipment manufacturing grew last year

Last year, the production volume in the Estonian electronic and electrical equipment manufacturing sector grew at constant prices by 8% and as compared to 2012, both sales and export growth accelerated a bit, informs LETA reffering to Estonian economy and communications ministry.

Sweden continued to be the biggest export market in 2013 for electronic and electrical products, where a half of the sector's total exports went. In production of computers, electronic and optical equipment, exports grew by 5%, helped by strong sales in foreign markets in the first half of the year, but the weakening of external demand in the second half of the year led exports in into recession the last quarter. In electrical equipment manufacturing, export growth accelerated to 17%, surpassing the previous year's figures by more than two times.


However, the electric equipment sales in the domestic market declined by 30%, which lowered the total branch sales growth to 9%. Three-quarters of total sales were sales of computers, electronic and optical devices, and a quarter was sales of electrical devices.


The number of employees in the sector grew by 4%. Wage growth, 5%, exceeded Estonia's average salary.
