Riga and Ventspils ports handle largest cargo volumes in Baltics in Q1

In the first three months of the year 2014, the Freeports of Riga and Ventspils outmatched their Estonian and Lithuanian rivals and handled the largest cargo volumes in the Baltic States, according to statistics from the largest Baltic ports, informs LETA/Nozare.lv.

In the first quarter of the year, Freeport of Riga handled 9.9 million tons of cargo, 21.7% more than in January-March 2013, the highest figure across the Baltic States.
The Freeport of Ventspils handled 8.99 million – a 1.5% decrease on last year.
Meanwhile, the Port of Klaipeda handled 8.7 million tons of cargo, 7.4% less than a year ago, while the Port of Tallinn – 8.3 million tons – a 7.3% increase.
The Port of Liepaja was the first largest Baltic port in terms of cargo turnover in the first three months of the year with 1.5 million tons, which was 4.8% more than last year.
