The container terminal of the Estonian transit operator Transiidikeskus at the port of Muuga boosted its container turnover by 12% in 2013, thus fulfilling the aim to increase the terminal's container turnover by at least 10% during the year, Äripäev.ee/LETA reports.

Although the cargo turnover in December was 17,824 TEUs, 2.5% more than in the same month of the previous year, the annual growth was 12% to 251,738 TEUs.

"We can be satisfied with the container turnover growth in 2012. The competition in the name of transit goods grew quit strongly last year between Baltic Sea ports. Despite strong competition where there is a tough fight for every container and tonne, we managed to increase effectiveness during the year," said Transiidikeskus board chairman Erik Laidvee.

For Transiidikeskus, two major events in 2013 were the acquisition of Railgarant Estonia OÜ, which secured the possibility of expansion, and replacement of the general goods terminal's rental contract with a building rights contract running till 2062.

Transiidikeskuse AS terminals 12 months total cargo turnover was 2,719,655 tonnes.
