Uzbekistan considering the establishment of fruit and vegetable distribution center in Latvia

BC, Riga, 16.10.2013.Print version
Uzbekistan is considering options for transporting fruit and vegetables via Latvia, Latvian and Uzbek officials admitted during a Latvian-Uzbek economic forum yesterday, informs LETA.

According to Uzbek Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade Minister Elyor Ganiyev, fruit and vegetables available in Latvia's stores frequently taste like rubber. Uzbekistan's climate allows offering production with excellent taste quality. The international food fair "Riga Food", which was held this past September, proved interest in Uzbek fruits and vegetables.

Transport Ministry representative Andris Maldups points out that Uzbek officials' proposals on establishing a distribution center for fruit and vegetables in Latvia are promising. He believes that Uzbek businessmen can launch their ventures with the help of existing warehouses and refrigerated storage. Later on, they can decide on establishing a separate distribution center.

It is planned that Uzbek vegetables and fruits will be exported via Latvia to Northern Europe.

Uzbek officials are ready to carry out their plans, since Uzbek companies have already successfully participated in "Riga Food". They have also already signed specific contracts with Latvian companies. Therefore, it is expected that Uzbekistan will begin transporting fruit and vegetables via Latvia quite soon, predicts Maldups.
