Eesti Energia plans to invest billions dollars in Utah

BC, Tallinn, 02.10.2013.Print version
Estonian state-owned energy giant Eesti Energia's U.S. subsidiary head Rikki Hrenko said that the company intends to invest billions of dollars in Utah, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Enefit American Oil manager Hrenko said it in an interview to U.S. media channel KSL.

Eesti Energia's spokeswoman Eliis Vennik told the Public Broadcasting news portal that the mineral deposit in question contains over 6 billion tonnes of oil shale and processing that into liquid fuel undoubtedly means big investments.

"The role of Eesti Energia is to prepare the project for implementation over 6 years and find the necessary financing sources. Today not even a half of that path has been covered and thus questions that specific cannot be answered yet," she said.

"We have a good example in the form of the Jordan power plant project that will soon reach construction stage though," said Vennik. "When we look at the big picture, Eesti Energia's foreign investments form a very small part of our total investment volume and in the future too, we consider investments in Estonia the most important," said Vennik.
