Latvian robots continue to dominate the world’s stage – this time in the world's largest open robot competition "Robogames" in San Mateo, California, informed BC the Latvian Institute.

Latvian robot makers took part in three events and topped them all – Mega Sumo, Mini Sumo and Line Following.

In the Mega Sumo event, a robot named "Kurmis" took gold, while "Gauja" (named after the second longest river in Latvia) placed second. Latvian robot "Tilt" triumphed in the Mini Sumo category, but "Bridge Drifter" prevailed in the line following contest.

The men behind the robots are Einārs Deksnis, Andis Jargans, Guntars Trimalnieks, Raimonds Kabutavičš, Gundars Miezītis and Guntis Kuļikovskis.

"RoboGames" invites the best minds from around the world to compete in over 50 different events. Combat robots, walking humanoids, soccer bots, sumo bots, and even androids that do kung-fu.

As reported, earlier in March three Latvian-made robots triumphed in the European robotics championship’s prestigious Robot Sumo challenge, claiming the three top spots.
