He had been given a chance to have a tour at the Brolis new facility for the MBE growth of antimonides and type-I GaSb laser diode development. Prof. Zmuidzinas acknowledged the state-of-the-art status of Brolis facility, technology, knowledge and results, providing an interest of cooperation for upcoming space missions, reports LETA/ELTA.
"I am particularly glad to host Prof. Jonas Zmuidzinas at our site, since he was a director of Microdevices Laboratory at NASA's JPL in the 2007-2011 period, prior becoming the chief technologist. JPLs Microdevices Laboratory research focus is very similar to the work we develop at Brolis, including molecular beam epitaxy of antimonides and GaSb mid-infrared laser development. So, it pleases us that our efforts are being acknowledged by such experts in the field," says Augustinas Vizbaras, COO of Brolis Semiconductors.

As reported, on Friday MBE specialist and mid-infrared laser diode manufacturer Brolis Semiconductors officially opened their new MBE and laser diode production facility, the company said.
The ceremony was led by H. E. The President of Lithuania Ms. Dalia Grybauskaite who gave an opening speech, followed by the speeches from the co-founders of the company – Vizbaras brothers, TU Munich professor Markus-Christian Amann, HE Prime Minister of :Lithuania Mr. Andrius Kubilius, and the managing partner of the venture capital fund LitCapital, Mr. Sarunas Siugzda.
The ceremony marked an impressive pace from Brolis Semiconductors, who established the facility from scratch in 9 months. The total investment value is around 5 million euros.
"Talented young people are coming back to Lithuania to create business. This is the best proof that business conditions are improving in our country. Such company is an inspiring example of innovative and viable business model. Not only it creates jobs but also makes our country competitive," said Dalia Grybauskaite, the president of Lithuania.
"This ceremony marks a great event for us, the co-founders, as well as our company people. We have been putting maximum efforts in the last couple of months to finish the facility on time. However, this is just the beginning, the hardest work and most difficult challenge is still ahead of us. Our next nearest goal is to bring the first batch of our R&D laser diode products by the end of February, 2013 and this is where our effort are being directed at the moment. We hope that in the next few years we will be able to grow and to establish ourselves as a reliable supplier for mid-infrared optoelectronic components and epi-material in the global market," Said Dominykas Vizbaras, CEO of Brolis Semiconductors.
