In spring of 2013, Lithuanian national air carrier AirLituanica will start operating flights to Brussels. The airline is planned to operate flights to Brussels on weekdays: 4 times a week in the morning and 5 times a week in the evening.

AirLituanica representatives says that such schedule will be very comfortable when Lithuania starts president the European Union, therefore, there is no need to give EUR 1 million to Brussels Airlines.

It was reported that Brussels Airlines want a million of euros as a warranty against possible losses if flights between Vilnius and Brussels turn out to be profitless and airplanes are not at least 85% occupied. If such warranty is granted, Brussels Airlines promise to conduct flights to Lithuania twice a day.

During the first year of operation, AirLituanica plans to offer flights to 5 cities – Amsterdam, Brussels, Kiev, Paris and Moscow. In a year, 6 new destinations would be opened.

A total of 14 Lithuanian companies and businessmen have contributed to the establishment of the company.

AirLituanica's initial share capital stands at EUR 2.5 million. The carrier is expected to launch operations in spring of 2013.

Vilnius City Municipality currently owns 34% of shares, 17% were distributed to Lithuania-based companies or natural persons, while 49% of the carrier is owned by the strategic investor.
