Cargo handling in the Baltic Eastern Coast Seaports grew by 6.3% in January-October

Throughout results in January-October 2012 the overall cargo handling in the Baltic Eastern Coast Seaports totalled 295 096,2 thou. tn, the year-on-year change is +6,3% or +17 585,9 thou. tn. Basic cargo categories that had made the biggest impact on this growth were as follows: crude oil (+10 648,1 thou. tn yoy), coal (+5 445,3 thou. tn yoy) and containerised cargoes (+2 019,0 thou. tn yoy), informs BC Klaipeda port’s press service.

In PRIMORSK PORT 63 846,3 thou. tn of oil and oil products, i.e. more by +2,9% or by 1 790,0 thou. tn than in January – October of 2011 were handled. Primorsk Port handles exclusively oil and oil products. Throughout the analysed period 58 615,8 thou. tn of crude oil and 5 230,5 thou. tn of oil products were handled in the Port.

 

In the SEAPORT of SAINT – PETERSBURG totally 48 356,3 thou. tn of cargo were handled; the change makes –3,3% or less by –1 653,5 thou. tn than during the corresponding period of 2011.

 

Volumes of general cargo achieved 32 100,9 thou. tn; the change year-on-year is +5,3% or +1 625,4 thou. tn, including:

UST-LUGA PORT handled 37 651,6 thou. tn of cargo; the year-on-year change is +114,0% or  +20 058,7 thou. tn. Oil products, coal constitute and crude oil the largest part of the overall turnover of this Port (26,9%, 35,1% and 28,7%  respectively). 

           

Handling volumes of dry and bulk cargo totalled 14 179,4 thou. tn; the yoy change is +29,1% or  +3 195,8 thou. tn, including

The overall turnover in the PORT of VYSOTSK within the analysed period was 10 915,6 thou. tn; the change makes –2,9% or320,5 thou. tn year-on-year. This port handles only two categories of cargo. Oil products constitute the largest share in the overall turnover of the Port, i.e., 76,7% 8 374,8 thou. tn of oil products were handled throughout the analysed period, i.e. the handling rates decreased by –1,8% or by –151,6 thou. tn year-on-year. Volumes of coal handling were 2 532,2 thou. tn; the change is –6,6% or –177,5 thou. tn year-on-year.

 

The aggregated throughput of sea – born cargo in Klaipėda Port and Būtingės terminal in January – October of 2012 totalled 36,1 million tons, the overall year – on – year change was –5,7 percent down. 29,2 million tons were handled in Klaipeda Seaport throughout the analysed period, the year-on-year change was –5,1% or –1,6 million tn, meanwhile Būtingės terminal handled 6,9  million tn, the year-on-year change was –8,1% or –0,6 million tn.

 

Within the period of January – October of 2012 the cargo turnover comparing with the corresponding period of 2011 the handling volumes of agriculture products (+609,7 thou. tn yoy), raw and processed minerals and construction materials (+394,0 thou. tn yoy) and iron ore (+219,1 thou. tn yoy) and) marked an increase.

 

The most significant drop down in cargo turnover throughout January – October of 2012 comparing with the corresponding period of 2011 occurred due to decreased handling volumes of bulk natural and chemical fertilizers (-1 635,6 thou. tn yoy), oil products (-838,3 thou. tn yoy) and crude oil (-612,6 thou. tn yoy).

 

In terms of cargo groups the handling volumes of liquid cargo decreased by 8,6% yoy to 15 312,9 thou. tn (42,5% of overall Port handling turnover). ). Dry and bulk cargo handling volumes decreased by 4,7% yoy, the handling rates of this cargo category were 11 618,6 thou. tn (32,2% of overall Port handling turnover).

 

General cargo handling volumes decreased by 1,6% yoy, the overall turnover in this cargo group was 9 140,3 thou. tn (25,3% of overall Port handling turnover).

 

5 974 vessels were reported to call Klaipėda Port and Būtingės terminal throughout the period of January – October of 2012. 69 vessels (-9,2% or less by 7 vessels yoy) moored at Būtingės terminal. 4 073 international vessels (more by 27 vessels or +0,7% year-on-year) and 1 832 domestic ships ( more by 11  ships or 0,6% yoy) were reported to call Klaipėda Port. Throughout the foregoing period of the current year 5 905 vessels were reported to call the Seaport of Klaipeda, hence the number of vessels calling Klaipeda Port increased by 38 vessels or by +0,6% comparing with the corresponding period of 2011. The number of passengers calling the Port throughout the analysed period was 303 097, i.e. more by 7,1% or by 20 217 passengers comparing with the corresponding period of 2011.

 

The total throughput in TALLINN PORT was 24 381,6 thou. tn; the change is –20,0% or6 092,6 thou. tn year-on-year.

Passenger traffic. This year the Joint Port of Tallinn rendered services to 7 541,3 thou. passengers; the change is +4,4% year-on-year, or +316,2 thou. passengers.

 

Vessels. 6 094 vessels were reported to call the Port of Tallinn, i.e. more by 9 vessels or by 0,1%,  comparing with the corresponding period of 2011.

 

The aggregated throughput of RIGA PORT totalled 30 308,2 thou. tn; the change is +7,7% year– on – year or +2 162,5 thou. tn. Growing handling rates of coal (increased by +14,1% or +1 552,0 thou. tn yoy to 12 524,8 thou. tn) and containers (increased by +17,0% or by +444,6 thou. tn yoy to 3 053,1 thou. tn) made the greatest impact on the increased overall turnover in the Port.

 

Throughout analysed period of 2012 coal and oil products constituted the largest share in the overall handling volumes in this Port (41,3% and 21,7% respectively).

The SEAPORT OF VENTSPILS marked an increase by +10,2% or +2 391,0 thou. tn. year-on-year in overall turnover, which altogether totalled 25 958,0 thou. tn. Throughout January – October of 2012 the most rapid growth was achieved in  handling of oil products, which amounted to 13 808,0 thou. tn; the year-on-year change is +14,2% or +1 716,0 thou. tn. The throughput of coal handling was 6 706,0 thou. tn with year –on year change +26,0% or +1 385,0 thou. tn.

 

Oil products and coal constitute the largest part of cargo handling in this port (53,2% and 25,8% respectively).

Vessels. In total the Port rendered services to 1 503 vessels; the year-on-year change is –3,4%, or –53 vessels.

           

The total throughput in the PORT of LIEPAJA reached 6 015,7 thou. tn; the year-on-year change is +52,6% or +2 072,5 thou. tn. Grain handling cut out the largest share of handling volumes of this port (38,2%). The overall turnover of grain handling in January-October of 2012 increased by +119,5% or by +1 250,5 thou. tn year-on-year to 2 297,0 thou. tn.
