Number of tourists accommodated in Lithuania grew by 9.8% in Q3

According to the provisional data of Statistics Lithuania, in III quarter 2012, accommodation establishments accommodated by 9.8% more guests than in the same quarter of 2011, and received 720,500 tourists.

The number of tourists from the EU countries made up 261.6 thousand (by 4.1% more than in the same quarter 2011), tourists from non-EU countries – 161.6 thousand (by 31.6% more).



 

The majority of foreign tourists were from Germany – 71.7 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 63.5 thousand), Russia – 71.5 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 50.2 thousand), Poland – 47.2 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 48.6 thousand), Belarus – 32.9 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 21.8 thousand), Latvia – 25 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 21.5 thousand), Finland – 14.4 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 12.8 thousand), the United Kingdom – 13.8 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 10.8 thousand), Italy –13.7 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 15.6 thousand), and Estonia – 13.7 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 13.2 thousand). The number of Lithuania's residents accommodated grew by 5.4 per cent and totalled 297.3 thousand.

In III quarter 2012, almost one-third of tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of resort towns: Palanga – 101.1 thousand (by 4.3 per cent more than in III quarter 2011), Druskininkai – 74.8 thousand (by 18.6% more), Neringa – 32.1 thousand (by 1.2% more), Birstonas – 7.6 thousand (by 10.1% more).

 

Over the nine months of 2012, accommodation establishments received 1.6 million tourists.

In January-September 2012, accommodation establishments received 1.6 million tourists, or by 11% more than in the same period of 2011; the number of foreigners amounted to 907.1 thousand (by 12.4% more).
