The company has the European Union's rail operator license, but lacks any experience on the market of broad-gauge railways of 1,520 millimeters. If the company's decision is positive, Freightliner will establish a subsidiary in Latvia, just like in Poland or Australia, pointed out Iesalnieks, writes LETA.
According to the Transport Ministry's, Freightliner was encouraged by its current partners, cargo consignees and forwarders, who consider Latvia a good potential transit country for their shipments, Transport Ministry representative Eline Balgalve told the newspaper.
Freightliner is the second largest rail freight operator in Great Britain. The company also operates in Poland, Germany and Australia.
