Cargo handling in Eastern Coast Baltic Sea Ports grew by 6.2% in January-August

Within the analysed period (January – August 2011 and 2012) the overall handling in Eastern Coast Baltic Sea Ports made 226 306.5 thou. t, the change was +6.2% or +13 240,7 thou. t. The increase was reached due to the following cargoes: crude oil (+6 427,4 thou. t), coal (+4 588.0 thou. t), containerised cargoes(+1 476,2 thou. t) and oil products (+1 327,1 thou. t), reported C the Port of Klaipeda.

IN PRIMORSK PORT. The overall handling of oil and oil products made 50 716.3 thou. t, i.e. +1.4% or more by 685.3 thou. t than in January – August in 2011. Oil and oil products are the only cargoes in  Primorsk Port. 46 614.6 thou. t  of crude oil and  4 101.7 thou. t of  oil products were handled  during the analysed period.

 

IN THE PORT OF SAINT PETERSBURG. The overall cargo handling was 38 416.7 thou. t, the change was -2.7% or less by  -1 077.6 thou. t than within the analysed period in 2011.

 

The volume of general cargoes  was 25 733.5 thou. t, change +5.0% or +1 225.0 thou. t, whereof:

IN THE PORT OF UST LUGA. The overall cargo handling was 28 332,1 thou. t, change +108.3% or  +14730.4 thou. t. Oil products (29.4%), coal (36.7%) and crude oil (24.4%) make the biggest part of cargo handling in the port.

 

The volume of dry and bulk cargoes made 11 156.7 thou. t, change +27.5% or +2 406.9 thou. t, whereof:

IN THE PORT OF VYSOTSK. The overall cargo handling made 8 501.1 thou. t, change -10.2% or -962.7 thou. t. Only two groups of cargoes are handled in this port.  The biggest part of the cargo handling in the port was made by oil products  – 78.6%, 6 685.5 thou. t, i.e. -7.9% or -577.3 thou. t, of these products were handled within the analysed period.  The volume of coal handling made 1 815.6 thou. t, change -17.5% or -385.4 thou. t.


In January – August 2012 28.1 m t of sea-born cargoes was handled in Klaipėda Port and Būtingės terminal, the overall change made -7.4, in comparison to the corresponding period in 2011. In January – August 2012 in Klaipėda Port it was handled 23.0 m t, the change was  -6.2% or -1.5 m t, and in  Būtingės terminal it was handled 5.1 m t , the change was  -12.2% or  -0.7 m t.

 

In January – August  2012 in comparison to the corresponding period in  2011 handling of  raw and processed minerals, construction materials (+277.3 thou. t) and ore (+251.9 thou.  t) increased.

 

The most considerable drop down in January – August 2012  in comparison to the corresponding period in 2011 occurred due to decreased bulk natural and chemical fertilizers (-1 004.6 thou. t), oil products (-784.9 thou. t) and crude oil (-711.7 thou. t) handling.

 

According to cargo groups, the volume of liquid cargoes decreased by 11.2% and made 11 774.5 thou. t (43.7% of overall Port handling). Dry and bulk cargoes handling decreased by 6.1%, the handling volume of this cargo group made 9 015.6 thou. t (32,2% of the overall Port handling turnover). General cargos decreased by 2.2%, the overall handling turnover of this cargo group made 7286.1 thou. t (24,1% of the overall Port handling turnover).

 

4 526 ships were reported to call Klaipėda Port and Būtingės terminal within the period of January – August 2012,  51 of the ships  moored at Būtingės terminal (-13,6% or  less by 8 ships in comparison to the corresponding period in 2011). 


3 222 international ships (-8 ships or -0.2%, in comparison to January – August of 2011) and 1 253 local ships (in January – August of 2011 the number was the same) were reported to call Klaipėda Port. Throughout January – August of 2012 the number of ships calling Klaipėda Port was 4 475, i.e. more by 8 ships than during the corresponding period in 2011. The number of passengers calling Klaipėda Port during the analysed period was 247 922, i.e. more by 8.9% or 20 190 passengers in comparison to the corresponding period in 2011. The number of cruise ship passengers in January – August 2012 made 23 289, i.e. +28.9% or +5 220, in comparison to January – August of 2011.

Ships. 4 910 ships, i.e. less by 24 ships or 0.5% in comparison to the corresponding period of time in 2011, called Tallinn Port.

 

IN THE PORT OF RIGA. The overall cargo handling made 24 755.2 thou. t, change +9.6% or +2 169.3 thou. t. The increase was reached due to increased handling volumes of coal (+12.2% or +1087.7 thou., the overall quantity handled was 9 990.9 thou. t) and containers (+23.2% or +464.3 thou. t, the overall volume in January – August 2012 made 2 468.7 thou. t). In the analysed period of 2012 coal (40.4% of the overall cargo handling in the Port) and oil products (22.9%) made the biggest part of cargo handling.

IN THE PORT OF VENTSPILS. The overall amount of cargoes handled was 21 821.0 thou. t, the change made +15.0% or +2 844,0 thou. t. The oil product handling was increasing the most rapidly, in January – August 2012 it made 11 579.0 thou. t, the increase was by 18.2% or +1 784.0 thou. t. Within the analysed period it was handled 5 928.0 thou. t, change +45.1% or +1 841.0 thou. t of coal. The biggest part of cargo handling in the Port was made up by oil products (53.1%) and coal (27.2%).

The biggest part of the cargo handling in the port was made by grain (36.4%), the turnover of it within January - August 2012 was 1 684.4 thou. t, change +139.0% or +979.5 thou. t.
