Latvian national airline airBaltic has a list of 150 potential destinations, which are constantly being evaluated, with about 12 destinations currently being assessed to be opened in the short-term, airBaltic's CEO Martin Gauss told members of the press yesterday.

However, he did admit that the airline's plan is to carry out consolidation, and only then growth. Thus the airline must continue to work to achieve enough stability to open up new routes.

Gauss refrained from saying which specific routes could be opened, but admitted that destinations to the east have been successful, as well as destinations in Scandinavia. He added that less successful are longer flights to southern countries.

Speaking about Lithuania and Estonia, Gauss admitted that there are airlines operating in these countries that are in a stronger position than airBaltic. He said that the airline continues to assess the possibility of opening new routes from these countries, but did not say anything specific.

Asked about the establishment of one main airline serving the Baltics, Gauss said that the airline's name is airBaltic and this name was chosen to show that the airline serves all three Baltic countries.

As reported, airBaltic currently offers flights to 60 destinations from Riga.

airBaltic was established in 1995, the state of Latvia is currently the key shareholder with a 99.8% stake.
