Alla Petrova, BC, Riga, 27.07.2012.Print version
The company PKL Flote has signed a contract with the Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Yard for the construction of an azimuthal tugboat with the capacity of 3728kWt (5000 hp). In accordance with the contract, the vessel will be delivered to PKL Flote in the summer of 2013.

It is planned to operate the tugboat in Riga port, where PKL Flote already used vessel of the same type – Castor. Castor has already proved itself very well in Riga, informed BC AS PKL Flote’s secretary Alina Kisļicina.

PKL constantly keeps modernize its fleet. Twelve new tugboats have been constructed over the past several years. They are operating in Estonia, Finland and Latvia (Ventspils).

The new tugboat is a icebreaking class ARC4, which allows it to operate easily in areas with one-meter-thick ice. Besides, the tugboat is equipped with a very powerful external fire extinguishing system. It will also be possible to use the vessel to provide escort tugboat services – accompany ships carrying dangerous cargo, provide emergency assistance and prevent potential catastrophes. Furthermore, the tugboat can be used not only to service ships within the port but also to break ice and provide towing services in the Gulf of Riga.

The Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Yard came up with the best offer in terms of price and quality. Besides, PKL Flote has already previously cooperated with the company, which has built four of PKL tugboats.
