In January-June cargo handling in the Baltic Eastern Seaports grew by 5,1%

Throughout the January-June of 2011 and 2012 the overall cargo handling in the Baltic Eastern Seaports totalled 173 749,6 thou. tn, the year-on-year change is +5,1% or +8 439,4 thou. tn. Basic cargo categories that had made the most significant impact on this growth were as follows: coal (+4 019,3 thou. tn yoy), crude oil (+3 261,8 thou. tn yoy) and containerised cargoes (+1 320,0 thou. tn yoy), informs BC statistic specialist of marketing department at Klaipeda Seaport Žymantas Sinkevičius.

In PRIMORSK PORT 38 515,0 thou. tn of oil and oil products, i.e. more by +1,3% or by 488,8 thou. tn than in January – June of 2011 were handled. Primorsk Port handles exclusively oil and oil products. Throughout the analysed period 35 814,1 thou. tn of crude oil and 2 700,9 thou. tn of oil products were handled in the Port.

 

In the SEAPORT of SAINT - PETERSBURG totally 27 685,6 thou. tn of cargo were handled, the change makes -1,8% or less by 494,1 thou. tn than during the corresponding period of 2011.

 

Volumes of general cargo achieved 19 345,4 thou. tn, the change year-on-year is +5,3 pct or +970,0 thou. tn, including:

UST-LUGA PORT handled 18 669,6 thou. tn of cargo, the year-on-year change is +111,9% or +9 860,4 thou. tn. Oil products and coal constitute the largest part of the overall turnover of this Port (31,0% and 38,9% respectively). 

           

Handling volumes of dry and bulk cargo totalled 7 763,9 thou. tn, the yoy change is +29,9% or +1 786,9 thou. tn, including

The overall turnover in the PORT of VYSOTSK was 6 180,3 thou. tn, the change makes -11,7% or -819,0 thou. tn year-on-year. This port handles only two categories of cargo. Oil products constitute the largest share in the overall turnover of the Port, i.e., 79,2% 4 896,8 thou. tn of oil products were handled throughout the analysed period, i.e. the handling rates decreased by -9,3% or by -501,0 thou. tn year-on-year. Volumes of coal handling were 1 283,5 thou. tn, the change is -19,9% or -318,0 thou. tn year-on-year.        

 

The aggregated throughput of sea – born cargo in Klaipėda Port and Būtingės terminal in January – June of 2012 totalled 20,3 million tn, the overall year – on - year change was 10,4% down. 16,9 million tn were handled in Klaipeda Seaport throughout the analysed period, the year-on-year change was -8,3% or -1,5 million tn, meanwhile Būtingės terminal handled 3,4 million tn, the year-on-year change was -19,4% or -0,8 million tn.


The highest increase in cargo turnover throughout January – June of 2012 comparing with the corresponding period of 2011 was reached due to increased handling volumes of and raw and processed minerals and construction materials (+223,3 thou. tn yoy) and iron ore (+195,7 thou. tn yoy)

 

The most considerable drop down in cargo turnover throughout January – June of 2012 comparing with the corresponding period of 2011 occurred due to decreased handling volumes of bulk natural and chemical fertilizers (-873,9 thou. tn yoy), crude oil (-821,7 thou. tn yoy) and oil products (-659,9 thou. tn yoy).

 

 In terms of cargo groups the handling volumes of liquid cargodecreased by 15,0% to 8 405, 0 thou. tn (41,5% of overall Port handling turnover). Dry and bulk cargo handling volumes decreased by 8,3%, the handling rates of this cargo category were 6 457,3 thou. tn (31,8% of overall Port handling turnover). General cargo handlingvolumes decreased by 5,1% yoy, the overall turnover in this cargo group was 5 422,3thou. tn (26,7pct. of overall Port handling turnover.

 

3 412 vessels were reported to call Klaipėda Port and Būtingės terminal within the period of January – June of 2012. 34 vessels (-19,0% or less by 8 vessels yoy) moored at Būtingės terminal. 2 394 international vessels (+1 vessel year-on-year) and 984 domestic ships ( the same number was recorded within the period of January –Jun eof 2011) were reported to call Klaipėda Port. Throughout the foregoing period of the current year the number of vessels calling Klaipeda Port was 3 378, i.e. more by 1 vessel than throughout the corresponding period of 2011. The number of passengers calling the Port throughout the analysed period was 150 757, i.e. more by 2,1% or by 3 049 passengers comparing with the corresponding period of 2011.

 

The total throughput in the PORT of TALLINN was 15 873,4 thou. tn, the change is -17,5% or -3 370,6 thou. tn year-on-year.

 

General cargo handling volumes were 3 156,5 thou. tn, the change is +5,0% or +150,4 thou. tons year-on-year, including:

Passenger traffic. This year the Joint Port of Tallinn rendered services to 4 035,4 thou. passengers, the change is +5,2 pct year-on-year, or +199,8 thou. passengers.

Vessels. 3 534 vessels were reported to call the Port of Tallinn, i.e. less by 72 vessels or by 2,0% comparing with the corresponding period of 2011.

           

The aggregated throughput of RIGA PORT totalled 18 790,8 thou. tn, the change is +11,7% year– on - year or +1 963,9 thou. tn. Growing handling rates of coal (increased by +19,6% or +1 264,2 thou. tn yoy to 7 721,2 thou. tn) and containers (increased by +25,6% or by +372,0 thou. tn yoy to 1 826,2 thou. tn) made the greatest impact on the increased overall turnover in the Port.

Throughout analysed period of 2012 coal and oil products constituted the largest share in the overall handling volumes in this Port (41,1% and 23,1% respectively).

The SEAPORT OF VENTSPILS marked an increase by +19,5% or +2 829,0 thou. tn. year-on-year in overall turnover, which altogether totalled 17 310,0 thou. tn. Throughout January - June of 2012 the most rapid growth was achieved in oil product handling, which amounted to 9 318,0 thou. tn, the year-on-year change is +25,3% or +1 879,0 thou. tn. The throughput of coil was 4 682,0 thou. tn with year –on year change +56,5% or +1 690,0 thou. tn.


Oil products and coal constitute the largest share of cargo handling in this port (53,8% and 27,0% respectively).

 

General cargo handling volumes were 1 222,0 thou. tn, the year-on-year change is -5,8 pct, or -61,0 thou. tn, including:

Vessels. In total the Port rendered services to 927 vessels, the year-on-year change is -2,4 pct, or -23 vessels.

           

The total throughput in the PORT of LIEPAJA reached 3 516,8 thou. tn, the year-on-year change is +48,6% or +1 149,6 thou. tn. Grain handling constitutes the largest share of handling volumes of this port (38,2%). The overall turnover of grain handling in January-June of 2012 increased by +135,6% or by +772,7 thou. tn year-on-year to 1 342,4 thou. tn.
