Freeport of Riga cargo turnover up 11.7% in H1

Print versionIn the first half of 2012, the Freeport of Riga handled 18.79 million tons of cargo, which is 11.7 percent or nearly two million tons more than in the corresponding period last year, the port informed Nozare.lv.

Bulk cargo turnover increased 18.4 percent or 1.72 million tons to 11.09 million tons. Past-year trends indicate that the volume of bulk cargo rapidly grows, increasing its share in the port's total cargo turnover.
The total amount of general cargo rose 5.6 percent from the first six months of 2011. Container cargo transportation has been in a dominant position in this segment for more than a year, growing 25.5 percent in the first half-year. The volume of roll on/roll off cargo increased 10.7 percent.
Liquid cargo turnover rose 1.5 percent to 4.36 million tons. Oil products constituted the largest of the total liquid cargo turnover in the first half of the year, increasing 1.3 percent from the respective period in 2011.
