Liepaja Port cargo turnover grew by 48.6% in H1

Print versionIn the first half of 2012, the Liepaja Port handled 3.52 million tons of cargo, 48.6% more than in the corresponding period in 2011, as Liepaja Special Economic Zone public relations specialist Liga Ratniece-Kadege informed LETA.

In January-June 2012, 52% of all cargoes handled at Liepaja Port were bulk cargoes. General cargoes constituted 42% or 1.48 million tons, a 41.8% increase on the respective period in 2011. The share of liquid cargo turnover amounted to 6% of all cargoes handled at the port.
In the first six months of 2012, the number of ships serviced by the port grew 23.9%, passenger numbers – 56%.
This past June, the Liepaja Port handled 593,548 tons of cargo, 40.7% more than a year before, and serviced 158 ships and 2,549 passengers.
