LDz increases cargo turnover by 10.8% in H1

Print versionState-owned joint-stock railroad company Latvijas Dzelzcels (Latvian Rail, LDz) transported a total of 33.5 million tons of cargo in the first six months of the year, which is 10.8% more when compared to the first half of last year, the company's president Ugis Magone said during a press conference today.

During the first six months of 2011, LDz transported a total of 29.88 million tons of cargo, writes LETA.
Magonis said during the press conference that there has been a rapid increase in the volume of cargo transported, and that if cargo volumes remain at the current pace, LDz's yearly cargo volumes could even reach 70 million tons.
Last year, the company transported a total of 59.38 million tons of cargo.
LDz also informed today about its financial results for 2011.
In 2011, LDz operated with LVL 19 million in profit, while the company achieved LVL 257 million in turnover.
LDz Cargo is the largest railroad transport company in Latvia.
