A wide public WiFi network, "Ventspils Guest", has been set up in Ventspils covering all schools, Ventspils University College, municipal buildings, ferry and bus terminals, as well as the main recreational areas (27), LETA was informed by the Ventspils City Council.

According to the Ventspils City Council, Ventspils currently has the largest public WiFi network in Latvia.

Taking into account that WiFi connections are used by nearly all smartphones and that the number of their users rapidly increases, the area of access to WiFi connections has been expanded, including such areas as the Southern breakwater and Ostas Street.

"Ventspils Guest" has the highest possible speed provided by WiFi technology – 20 megabits per second per each base station. However, taking into account the limitations of WiFi technology, the network does not allow to stream video and audio content or use torrents and other similar file sharing programs. Nevertheless, "Ventspils Guest" ensures web browsing, GPS data transmission and other functions offered by modern smartphones.

Public wireless Internet in Ventspils is available 24/7 and does not require a password. The network does not have any data or time restrictions.
